Children’s Self-Defense & Abduction Prevention

Give Your Child Skills. Build Their Confidence. Prepare as a Family.

As parents, we can’t be beside our children every second of every day. But we can give them the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to recognize unsafe situations and know what to do when something doesn’t feel right.

At Apex Defensive Solutions, our Children’s Self-Defense & Abduction Prevention training is designed to teach kids practical, age-appropriate personal safety skills in an environment that is educational, interactive, and empowering—not frightening.

Children learn how to be more aware of their surroundings, recognize potentially unsafe situations, establish boundaries, use their voice, seek help from trusted adults, and respond if someone attempts to grab, restrain, or take them.

But we don’t stop with the child.

Parents Train Too

One of the most important parts of our program is parent involvement.

We encourage parents to actively participate in the training alongside their children. Our goal isn’t simply to teach your child a few self-defense techniques—it’s to help your entire family become safer and better prepared together.

Parents learn the same safety concepts their children are learning so those lessons can continue long after the class ends. We discuss family safety plans, communication, awareness, boundaries, identifying trusted adults, what children should do if they become separated from a parent, and simple ways families can practice safety skills at home.

When parents understand the training, they can reinforce it.

When children know their parents have a plan, they become more confident.

And when families practice together, everyone becomes better prepared.

What Children Learn

Training may include:

  • Situational awareness and recognizing unsafe situations

  • Understanding appropriate boundaries

  • Using a strong, confident voice

  • When and how to say NO

  • Creating distance and getting to safety

  • Identifying trusted adults and appropriate sources of help

  • What to do if they become separated from their parent or guardian

  • Age-appropriate escapes from grabs and attempted restraint

  • Drawing attention and calling for help

  • Understanding that getting away is more important than fighting

  • Simple safety habits children can use every day

Every lesson is presented in an age-appropriate way with an emphasis on confidence and preparation rather than fear.

Safer Kids. More Prepared Parents. Stronger Families.

We believe child safety works best when it becomes a family conversation, not something discussed once and forgotten.

Our goal is for families to leave Apex talking about what they learned, practicing simple skills together, and developing safety habits they can continue using in everyday life.

Your child doesn’t need to become afraid of the world around them.

They need to know that if something goes wrong, they have options, they have a voice, and they know what to do.

And as a parent, you’ll leave with tools to continue building those skills at home.

Train Together. Prepare Together. Become Safer Together.

Prepared People Are Harder to Victimize.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages is this class for?

Our Children’s Self-Defense & Abduction Prevention class is designed for children and uses age-appropriate instruction. Because children develop at different rates, contact Apex if you’re unsure whether the class is appropriate for your child.

Do parents participate in the class?

Yes—and we strongly encourage it!

Parent involvement is an important part of our children’s program. Parents participate in portions of the training, learn the same safety concepts their children are learning, and receive tools they can continue practicing together at home.

Our goal is not just to make your child safer. We want to help your entire family become more aware, prepared, and confident together.

Will this class scare my child?

That is not our goal. We believe children can learn about personal safety without making them afraid of everyone around them.

We approach serious topics in an age-appropriate way and focus on awareness, confidence, boundaries, decision-making, and knowing what to do rather than creating fear.

Is this a martial arts class?

No. Apex does not teach children a martial arts system or train them to “win fights.”

This is practical personal-safety and self-defense training. The priority is recognizing problems, creating distance, getting away, attracting attention, finding help, and returning to safety.

Will my child learn how to fight?

The purpose of the class is not to teach children to fight other children.

Children may learn simple physical self-defense and escape skills for situations where someone is attempting to grab, restrain, or harm them. We emphasize that physical techniques are for protecting themselves and creating an opportunity to escape—not showing off, playing with friends, or starting fights.

What does “abduction prevention” mean?

We teach children practical strategies that can help them recognize unsafe situations, establish boundaries, respond to inappropriate approaches, attract attention, get away, and seek help.

We also discuss everyday situations such as becoming separated from a parent or guardian, identifying appropriate people to ask for help, and understanding family safety plans.

Do you only teach “stranger danger”?

No. Personal safety is more complicated than simply teaching children to be afraid of strangers.

We focus on behavior, boundaries, situations, communication, and trusted adults rather than teaching children that every unfamiliar person is dangerous.

Will my child be grabbed during training?

Some exercises may involve controlled, age-appropriate physical contact so children can practice escape and self-defense skills.

Safety is always a priority. Techniques are introduced progressively and supervised by Apex instructors.

What if my child is shy or nervous?

That’s completely okay. Children are never expected to walk through the door already feeling confident.

Our instructors work to create an encouraging environment where children can participate, learn, ask questions, and gradually become more comfortable using their voice and practicing the skills.

Does my child need any previous experience?

No. No martial arts, sports, or self-defense experience is required.

Our training is designed for everyday kids and families.

What should my child wear?

Comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely is best. Athletic clothing is recommended.

Avoid clothing, jewelry, or accessories that could interfere with physical activity.

What should parents wear?

If you plan to participate—and we hope you do—come dressed comfortably too! Parents may be involved in exercises and family safety activities throughout the class.

Can siblings attend together?

Absolutely. Having siblings learn the same concepts can make it easier for families to continue discussing and practicing safety skills together at home.

Each participating child should be properly registered for the class.

What if my child has a physical limitation or needs an accommodation?

Please contact Apex before class. We will discuss your child’s individual needs and determine how we can safely adapt the training whenever reasonably possible.

What will we be able to practice at home?

A lot of what we teach can continue at home without turning your living room into a training gym.

Families can practice things like identifying trusted adults, emergency contact information, family meeting locations, using a strong voice, recognizing boundaries, what to do if separated, and talking through different “What would you do?” situations.

We want the conversation about safety to continue after you leave Apex.

Will one class make my child completely safe?

No class can guarantee that a child will never be harmed or placed in a dangerous situation.

Our goal is to give children and parents additional knowledge, practical skills, confidence, and options they can use if something goes wrong.

Personal safety is something families should continue talking about and practicing over time.

Can parents ask questions during the class?

Absolutely. We want parents involved.

If there is a safety situation you have wondered how to handle with your child, ask us. One of the benefits of training together is giving parents an opportunity to learn alongside their children and continue those conversations at home.

Have Another Question?

We want both you and your child to feel comfortable before walking through our doors. If there’s something you’d like to know about the Children’s Self-Defense & Abduction Prevention class, contact Apex Defensive Solutions and ask us.

We’d be happy to help you determine whether the class is right for your family.
